Sodium Bicarbonate

Sodium Bicarbonate is one of the oldest natural minerals used in homes for cleaning and deodorizing. Its effectiveness comes from its unique chemistry - a mild alkaline salt that neutralizes acids, releases CO₂ bubbles when triggered, and uses its fine crystalline texture to lift dirt gently without scratching.

Here are some of its most effective uses:


Laundry Booster
Add ½ cup (8 tbsp) to your wash cycle with detergent.
Why it works: baking soda is mildly alkaline (pH ~8.3), it neutralizes the natural acids in sweat and oils. This reaction breaks down yellowing and odors while also softening hard water, which improves how detergents dissolve and clean.


Drain Rinse
Pour 2-4 tbsp into the drain, then flush with hot water.
Why it works: alkalinity neutralizes acidic, odor-causing compounds while its fine particles help loosen greasy residues. With hot water, it washes away buildup and keeps drains fresh and free-flowing.


Fridge Deodorizer
Place 3-4 tbsp in an open bowl inside the fridge and replace every 30 days.
Why it works: Odors in fridges are caused by volatile acidic (volatile acids?). Sodium bicarbonate reacts with these molecules in an acid–base neutralization, converting them into odorless salts.


Surface Whitener
Mix 2-3 tbsp with warm water, apply, scrub, and wipe clean.
Why it works: Its crystalline particles act as a gentle abrasive, physically loosening stains, it also reacts with acidic residues (like wine, juice, or coffee) to break their chemical bonds, leaving a brighter surface.


Carpet Cleaner
Sprinkle 2-3 tbsp over carpet, wait a few minutes, then vacuum. For stains, mix with warm water, apply, scrub gently, and blot dry.
Why it works: Its porous crystals absorb moisture and trap odor molecules. Chemically, its alkalinity neutralizes acidic compounds in food, drink, or pet accidents, breaking them down into harmless salts, which removes both discoloration and smell at the source.
