Air Quality and Cleaning: What Your Cleaning Products Secretly Leave Behind

Air Quality and Cleaning: What Your Cleaning Products Secretly Leave Behind

We all know our daily household messes: the spilled juice, the muddy shoes, the toothpaste splatters that somehow end up on the mirror. That’s the dirt you see.

But what about the dirt you don’t?

Research has long proven that many cleaning products do not just clean surfaces - they also impact the air around you. The invisible fumes that hang around long after the floor looks spotless and sometimes give you a headache? This is the hidden side of cleaning that no one really talks about.

But we want to talk about it - and it’s exactly why Kyma joined the “Take a Breath – Improving Indoor Air” initiative by Goumbook, the leading social enterprise dedicated to accelerating Sustainability and Climate Action in the UAE since 2009.

Measuring Air Quality in 10 Schools in the UAE

To gain a deeper understanding of the impact of various factors on indoor air quality, Goumbook conducted  an in-depth study in 10 schools across the UAE. The goal: check indoor air quality in classrooms before and after introducing better solutions. Schools were the first starting point of Goumbook’s initiative, because children breathe 50% more air per body weight than adults. And if that air is polluted? Their health, focus, and wellbeing are directly affected.

Where Kyma Comes In?

Goumbook was looking at testing the impact of paint, AC cleaning and cleaning products on air quality and we were proud to step in as the cleaning partner because for us, clean has never just meant shiny surfaces.

After measuring data for over 200 days,  study showed that when schools switched to Kyma and ditched traditional cleaners, invisible indoor toxins - TVOCs (volatile organic compounds, the harmful chemicals released into your air by conventional products) - dropped by 61%.

We can explain this because Kyma’s products do not have… and cannot be airborne. So our product stays where it should - on the surfaces it should clean!

So while traditional cleaners stop at what you see, Kyma goes further -  we just as much about the air you breathe as the surfaces you touch.

Why This Should Matter to You

At home, just like in schools, we should ensure that our families breathe safe air.  deserve safe air to breathe. And the good news is that with a few switches it is very possible to greatly improve the indoor air quality in your homes.

Read the full study to see how a few changes and switching to Kyma reduced invisible indoor toxins —making homes healthier, safer, and truly clean.
